Chudail to one and Kali to another Based in the backdrop of the British with Thakurs and their havelis. Usually havelis have a story of their own and bulbul is one such story. She is married off in childhood to a thakur who is old enough to be her father. As she grows everyone tries to tie her in their own holds, she is punished for a crime her heart unknowingly commits and then punished for being a woman. The unending heartbreak and suffering turn her into a chudail for those who wrong, and she becomes kali for women like her. The movie covers various aspects of women’s suffering form childhood marriage, to a male dominated society, to domestic and sexual violence. Tripti plays her role of bulbul to perfection from being a simple, sweet innocent girl to masking her emotions and thoughts completely. Loved the visuals of the film, it leaves an impact on the mind.
