The audience stood up and clapped slowly at the end of this movie, something I've never seen. I enjoyed this movie and it's effort to let the audience get to know the hero's of this WWII Battle. I'm a retired Navy man; I served aboard 4 ships during my 24 year Naval career and I liked that this was not a love story (like the Midway movie of 1976) or a low budget attempt to dramatize the battle.
My wife and I went home and googled the names of the pilots to learn more about them (something we had never done after a movie).
I was disappointed to read the top critics. They must not appreciate history and real heroism in the theater. This is not a top gun made up movie, it's a real top gun factual movie and you'll leave knowing who the brave men of Midway were, and how they turned the War to our favor. They had wives, kids and they served their country heroically. Lest we forget.
