I loved this film. It was beyond what I expected. Iโm a huge fan of all things Gothic and Bram Stoker. This ranks as number one in my book out if 127 related movies.
The pacing, cinematography, casting, acting, direction and locations were all top quality. I loved everything about the movie.
I was sad to see the cinema I visited almost empty. I think that the mixed reviews have put people off. If you like a well crafted film without OTT violence and gore then you should see it. I felt that the romance and charm were spot on. It was beautiful to behold.
At the end of the film I was moved to tears. Yes itโs emotional and itโs a beauty and the beast tale with its roots in historical folk lore. Death and the maiden.
My adult children thought it was too slow but I felt that it was perfect. I was consumed by the film and narrative. I have been thinking about it and even dreamt about it. For me it was wonderful.
I love a film that is all about atmosphere and this has it in bags.
I hope that this gets the recognition at the Golden Globes, BAFTA and Oscars etc. Lily-Rose Depp was outstanding. Bill Skarsgard absolutely owned The Count. Nick Hoult equally nailed his role. All the cast were sublime. The sailor in a minor scene was excellent.
I loved the detail : the dead pigs heads in the market and all the real life rats.
Bravo! Everyone involved deserves a massive vote of appreciation and thanks. I donโt think there will be another film of this magnitude and I hope itโs seen as the masterpiece that it is. My friend who joined me at the cinema also agreed. ๐
