They tired. The setting of the movie seems to be an alternative universe where Artemis is a kid/genius, a good guy at heart who's a bit of a criminal and loner, loves to surf and treats everyone in his house hold like they are an equal. Not sounding like the Artemis we know? Well this movie isn't the books we know. I decided to watch the movie all the same and my thoughts are; Great special effects and some good actors but no character development, no cohesive plot, unrelatable villain and a child genius that gets all the answers handed to him by his dad. Even if it had a different name, this would have been a direct to streaming movie. They took a cool world and chose string together small elements of the books to have cool moment followed by cool moment. To sum it up, there is a scene where Holly defies orders to save a fisherman. She pulls him form a time rift and puts him on a boat 50m on a falling boat 50m (150ft) in the air. This movie is that Fisherman, and Holly is the director, trying to do a good thing but didn't put any thought into it.
