As we watched this movie together, my husband and I were initially as confused as the character Sir Anthony Hopkins so beautifully portrayed. However, as the movie continued, we realised that the confusion we were drawn into was actually the confusion and fear of the person suffering from Alzheimers in the movie. We found it confronting, sad and poignant. It could leave the audience depressed only if they were to imagine themselves in that position. As a retired mental health nurse, I have cared for many such patient and some are extremely difficult to manage with their fluctuating moods however, this is the story from the sufferers perspective.
The Father is a brilliant story and powerfully acted by both Sir Anthony Hopkins and by Olivia Colman who played the devoted and loving daughter Anne.
