Movies like this are what women are healing from over a decade later. The normalization of mocking mental health issues, patronizing behavior, dishonesty in multiple forms is truly psychotic. This is supposed to be a romantic comedy, yet nothing was romantic and nothing was funny at all. If it had been categorized as a dark psychological thriller I would have accepted it more...like a case study for how terrible people can be when they live lives of denial and don't face their issues. These types of movies from this era caused so much emotional damage for women. The fact that this movie and its fans think it is "quirky" is even more disturbing evidence that some people have accepted the toxic conditioning society feeds us. I dont normally write anything if its a bad review- I figure "hey! some people like things; some dont". But I actually believe movies like this hurt women as a collective and do damage. Do NOT watch this. Its not a "fun chill stay at home movie night flick"- it's an expose that normalizes traumatic behavior. And for context: I like silly movies. I like raunchy humor. I am not conservative. I dont mind if a comedy has some dark humor or trashy jokes- but this wasnt even funny- and the things that were so awful werent even supposed to be the funny things. When I watch things like this, the one good thing I feel is grateful that a movie like this could not be made anymore. People would boycott it. Girlcott it? Anyway. Strong NO. Trust me, I love a silly and goofy rom com- this is NOT it. If you want a funny and sassy throwback RomCom, watch 10 Things I Hate About You, etc. Pass on this always.
