in certain ways, really ahead of its time. in others, a product of its time. it's a critique of social hierarchy, an exploration of the dimensions. it reminds me of when I went to the CERN collider and they showed a video trying to explain the 4th dimension. I couldn't get my head around it. for us, the notion of the 4th dimension is unfathomable. just as for the flatlanders, the 3rd dimension. as the 2nd dimension for the linelanders. something simply we just can't comprehend, yet. real thought provoker : )

one of the very few depictions of something that, personally, I've been trying to put into words, make tangible, for a very long time. it hit a little too close to home. reading this book confirmed how valid certain experiences are. it confirms the realness of it all, at least for me. this book is so important, Plath's story deserves to be listened to. I know that unfortunately too many people would relate to it. so I suggest if you're not in your strongest state emotionally, leave it for another time.

big respect to Marjane Satrapi here. to process the hits the world threw at her, and project them into a powerful novel like this. the illustrations fit so perfectly with the way she narrates her life, starting off as a child in a world of war, unstable politics, religion and discrimination. I think it's a story everyone should hear, a book everyone should read and appreciate, both artistically and for its plot.

truly unique- the fact that bechdel both wrote and illustrated, the number of literary pieces she subliminally referenced, the work towards herself, processing her life events, the number of hours put into this work is unfathomable. every frame is profoundly thought through. and the fact that it's a true story, an autobiography, I became emotionally attached. many of the themes hit home. you can choose how to read it, in the sense that a graphic novel you can make it an easy(er) read, or you can deep dive into the references she makes, and discover whole new layers to the book highly recommend : )

never read a book like this before, it truly changed the way I process reading a book. you can analyse it in so many different ways, from the plot line, to the structure of the book, the way its narrated, etc. there are so many important themes here that I think everyone would cling to at least one. though at parts I was disturbed by the book, maybe I didn't understand it fully. the first part of the book will leave you confused for sure, but as the plot unfolds piece by piece you get more and more attached, and you begin to think deeper about the characters. I will definitely read it again.
