I’ve read the book years ago before the I saw it on Broadway. I’m not a super fan. But I can say unequivocally that the movie far surpasses the source materials! The acting is tender and nuanced. The singing of course is superb. Despite its long run time it never felt like it dragged at all. I appreciate the new interpretations of the choreography and the music. The directions and storyline was more coherent than the source material. They don’t take for granted the audience either. Perhaps a perfect musical movie adaptation!

It far exceeded my expectations. I didn’t read any reviews beforehand. It had a deft hand at balancing modern sensibilities while honoring and expanding upon original premises. I was particularly impressed with major theme - was is honor? How does one rather remain true? Costuming, set design and production values were very high. The cinematography was a little strange yet most enticing . The lighting was extremely off putting. I will watch it again
