The best direct adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft since The Whisperer in Darkness, and The Call of Cthulhu. "Color" stays as faithful to Lovecraft's vision as possible when translating an impossible to describe cosmic horror to a visual medium.
The acting is above average and largely dependent on Cage himself to carry the majority of the load, for which he is uniquely suited. Who else to play a man slowly descending into the madness brought from the entity that completely envelopes the farm and surrounding woodlands.
Many people believe this film is directly stealing from more famous titles such as "The Thing," "Slither," and "The Void. However the truth is, it is not paying homage to, nor stealing from other cosmic horror films. Those films in fact were adaptions of other Lovecraft stories. It is staying true to themes, depictions of horror, and the unknowable insanity that Lovecraft himself invented.
The special effects are a wonderful blend of CGI and practical effects, bringing forth a visceral feeling not present in most of today's horror films
All in all this is a very competent adaptation of the original story.
