Emma + Luke = Disappear in Nowhere by Victoria Unikel is a great science fiction story that’s not just for kids—parents will enjoy it too. The book is fun, easy to read, and has lovely illustrations that make the story even better.
The story is about two elementary school students who end up in another galaxy. Their journey is full of exciting adventures, and along the way, kids will learn important lessons about bravery, curiosity, survival, and read friendship between a 10-year-old boy and girl. After reading, I think children will be eager to learn more about space, other planets, and maybe even take an interest in astronomy.
One part that really stuck with me was how the author showed Uncle Bob’s influence on Luke. The line, “Luke even took to writing down Uncle Bob’s thoughtful insights, instinctively knowing their importance,” really stood out. Later in the story, Luke remembers those lessons, and they helped him and Emma survive. It’s a good reminder of how important role models are for kids.
I think this book would be a great addition to school libraries. It’s not fun and interesting, but it also teaches kids about science and space in an easy way that keeps them engaged.
I can’t wait to see the next book in this series.
