I am a Tolkien Fan since late 1970's. I usually read the Silmarillion, The Hobbit and LOTR almost every year. Speaking as a fan of Tolkien this series SUCKS Right from the start it invents reasons and events for no other than dramatic effect and to fit an alternate vision - not Tolkien's - of Middle Earth. If you can not manage to imagine TROP as being an alternate universe than the beloved universe that Tolkien created then I doubt that you will enjoy this modern day bastardization. However if you can manage this leap then I would think that 2 stars is about as good as it gets. It does a decent job on the look and feel. Grandiose scenes are... grandiose, battle scenes are fast paces and full of unbelievable combat moves. The actors try to play a character. The writers , well the plot and dialogue, together with the lack of any real achievement, makes me wonder if mediocre is the best they can do. Maybe I am being unfair - but with all the hype I expected something that would leave me anxious for the next episode, this doesn't do that for me.

Let kids be kids - quit pandering to the less than 4% and including Gay/Lesbian in kids shows just to include it. I am not homophobic, just tired of an agenda to make 96% have to celebrate 4% and thrust it into places it isn't needed in a kid's story Plus the obvious cussing - even if it is bleeped - we all know, even the kids know - that it was intended to be cussing. Unnecessary and not needed for a kid's story. A prime example of what to not expose your kids to.
