There is something about Mike Flanagan and the way he presents a story. No unnecessary gory slasher scenes, no usual horror flicks - no nothing! There were some jump scares indeed, but halfway through i was just blown away seeing how meticulously he creates a thriller. Watch him threading the needle of this story slowly and carefully. He was daring enough to engage in a voyage on some hostile body of water and he came out victorious. The casting was top notch. i refuse to call it a usual horror flick. It was just a story about some people fighting their own demons. It's safe to say that Mike Flanagan has revolutionized the so called ostensible essence of horror.
