As the first major reboot to the franchise, Return of Godzilla was the breath of fresh air the series needed after the dilution that was the later Showa Era. A quite literal return to form for the big G, he's no longer a friend to humanity, but a harrowing omen of it's potential destruction. The cast and practical effects still hold well. My only complaint is the pacing, with the film being a bit of a slow burn (for a godzilla film). In regards to the American Edit, i do wish someone would make a re-edit to include all the best parts of 1985 (IE Raymond Burr) without cutting down on the original movie run time, but that's just me.
