I think the Director set up some scenes to evoke Renoir, and it is a beautiful movie because of it. The movie conveys the relentless hard work of a kitchen churning out culinary masterpieces, and the pleasure of owning such wonderful skills. I very much enjoyed the discussion of food and wine, which are gems of description. It is clear why this was such a celebrated movie. I am drawn to the kind, romantic and beautiful world it portrays, such wonderful actors. I hope this genre of movie becomes a trend, it is exquisite.

Anecdotes aren't science, but I appreciate that alot of research was done to collect these stories. What I can't get over is the sanpaku eyed host, odd choice of casting and weirdly directed. Clearly she was green screened but that wasn't the problem. The unnatural smile was inconsistent with the subject matter and the wardrobe selected was odd. Saluting at the conclusion of the introduction to a military segment was just not good ... It felt like a high school production. I would like to see this taken back to the drawing board with more respect provided to the subject matter and possibly more actual science.

This is a review from about 2/3rds of the way through season 1. I appear to be binge watching this, so its compelling enough, but I'm feeling an overall 'meh' which is actually interesting because I'm of 2 minds on this drama: do I love it, or hate it? A few of the actors have been turned into parodies representing the various social ills (domestic abuse, sex addiction, illegal immigrants) and yet relatable. It took me a while to see they were featuring social ills which surprised me because it wasn't waved in your face like so much north american preachy drama does. An interesting undercurrent is how kind and considerate flemish people are - or at least how the writer portrays them to be. But it does have the patina of reality to it - is the writer channelling the style of social discourse he is used to living with?

A movie about the Marxist 'cancel culture', and some individuals from it that achieve the ability to go back to the past and kill people whose views they don't like (much easier than screaming obscenities and blocking people from attending speeches). The cherry on the cake is the lead's daughter as an adult. You'll recognize her, though I doubt the Donald will be pleased given the plot.
