No better way to celebrate 25 years than with a movie like Rocky aur Rani. The larger than life sets, chiffon saris, revisiting old music, family drama, masala - everything you want and expect in a Karan Johar movie. Karan Johar takes a mix of comedy, heartfelt love, social messages, family situations and combines it into a brilliant story. The movie screams Dharma, Karan Johar and Bollywood in all the best ways possible. Not a single full moment on screen with brilliant casting and lovely sets. The typical clash between two families as their children fall in love is shown in an endearing manner. As we watch the characters slowly blend with each other, we feel something in our hearts. Haters will hate, but Rocky Aur Rani was a feel good movie that pulled strings in the heart and definitely left audiences with smiles on their faces. Bits of comedy, mixed with emotions and a good plot is the perfect set up for a trip to the theaters.

Not going to say it’s a perfect movie because it’s not even close, however, it does not need to be hated on every chance given. Yes the makers took liberty, yes the dialogue writers tried to add a 21st century twist, yes the VFX was not pristine. But one thing I can say is that the each person is open to their interpretation of a story. There are so many things in the movie that bring the story to life, but most people are interested in creating memes. We know Lanka as the Kingdom of Gold, but with the evil demon life their movie maker made it black and grey (evil = dark). Similarly there are many points that waiver from the original movie yet hold meaning. Ramayan is recited and told in many different ways around India and other countries, not once have I been able to disrespect the story telling. When Ramayan is being said there is no place for us to point fingers and make it a meme fest. Not at all a perfect movie, however an attempt that should be respected for the story it tries to tell.
