My husband had lewy body dementia and I think he spared his wife because with lewy body it get worse each day,I think he knew that he was getting bad. There's is alot she could have done with him she should have never left him alone could have gotten twin beds because they have weird thoughts and hallucinations my husband would tell me another thing he should have not been driving because confusion sets in and they don't know brake from gas pedal he was only in beginning phases.SO I think she could of done more than just sit back.i stayed right with my husband till the end he was never alone
