Loved the book which is why I had high expectations from the series. The screenplay has deviated a lot from the book and the nuances that play out in each character’s life, have just disappeared. What you are left with is a mutation of the story that is clearly trying to tick boxes of Diversity & Inclusion themes - gender, race, LGBTQ+, multi-generation (have I left out anything?), without portraying any of the dilemmas and subtleties associated with these. I cringe at end of every episode and only watch the next one hoping that it will undo some damage done to the book. But it doesn’t. Sigh.
