I recently watched this film on Netflix. I am not sure if I have seen all of the Halloween movies, but most of them - even Halloween III - Season of the Witch. And I have seen the one that precceds this one. I rarely put pen to paper for things like this, but I am compelled to do so in this case. As some form of catharsis...or something. This film is one of those rarie films that is so bad you actually hate it. You hate that it got made. The characters are all unlikeable..there is no character for Micahel Myers but the film tries to create one and some backstop. Nothing in the film comes close to the excellent opening 5 minutes of the first film. Michael Myers in this film is not threatening. The people he encounters are so feeble- and the film making involved eith their interactions so shoddy that they are easy to overcome. He is not scary. He is not sympathetic. He is not fun (like Fredddy Krueger). He is bland. The other people in the film all exist on a scale of either stupid or obnoxious. Usually they run the gamut. We are introduced to these people and are instantly supposed to be likeable or interesting. None of them are either of these. I would nit be able to tell you who the main character is. Possiblybthe self righteous Tommy guy. Maybe Laurie Strode but she barely has any screen time.(Jamie Lee Curtis wasted). There are some truly laugh out loud awful moments. When the whole town are holed up.inside the hospital - safe from Michael. We have a scene where we follow a character, over the shoulder so we can't see his face, and I think we are supposed to think it is Michael. Amidst all the screaming, Tommy sees this person and says 'Micahel is that you'? It's Michael. Everyone it's Michael elts get him. Or something to this effect. What follows is a series of boring chase scenes through hospital corridors with people barricading flimsy doorways. We ga e aeen this all before. And none of this is done with any sense of threat, or drmama. We are not scared that if they find him they won't be able to overpower him. We are not scared for him either - is he looking for help? Why does he not have his mask on? Michael has always worn a mask so how Is anyone able to recognise him 40 + years after seeing him when he was 6 years old. It is totally unclear what the film makers were going for. There is literally no direction.
During the film several of the people are proud that Michael was killed at the end of the last movie. But then the house he was trapped in caught fire and burned down. So obviously he could now easily escape... the people seen idiotic for not putting 2 and 2 together. I really did not like any of the people in the film. I actively disliked them and how they were presented. I think I hated everything about this film.
I do feel a bit better now... maybe this has worked a little bit.
