It isn't perfect. It's a filthy, filthy gem.
-The in game cockpit HUD could have been laid out more usefully.
-The compass could have had additional indicators for legs/torso alignment, as well as actual 360 bearing reference.
-The map should be down low center on the HUD since you have to constantly reference it to adjust your mech position.
-There are no options for altering HUD colors (color blindness)
-You can't use the mission map to issue move orders to your lance.
-The Jumpship loading screen. There is literally 1 of them. They couldn't add other ships, viewing angles, space traffic, etc to make the Universe feel more alive? The inner sphere is vast and interstellar traffic common place. Why does it feel like a ghost town?
-Co-op is an awesome idea that should have been fleshed out more. It is great that a friend can jump into one of my pilots seats for me, and its a good time. But it is so limited in imagination. There is no benefit to helping your friends or others. You are just there. The host campaign progresses, the friends get nothing. No C-bills. No salvage rights. You can't even change weapon groups on your friends' mechs. WHY CAN"T YOUR FRIENDS BE HIRED MERCS IN MECHWARRIOR 5: MERCENARIES?!?!?!?! Why not let my friend bring in a mech from his own garage as a hired pilot. The host could cover repair costs, and the pilot could get a C-bill reward or salvage points? You could even potentially hire a friends lance for those multiple mission contracts.
-Pilots. They are just a set of randomized static photos and stats. When you hire/fire pilots based on something as weak as the pilots voice because there is literally no other difference, you done missed an opportunity. Why not have pilots unlock a story mission, once they have been thru enough missions with your outfit, that reveals some sort of backstory or personal quest? It could unlock their ACE pilot bonus skill or something.
Most of my complaints as you can see above are just my disappointment that they continue to fail to bring the rich lore of the BattleTech Universe to life in these games. That being vented, the core game is really an ASSUALT MECHs tonnage of fun. We have been waiting a long time for a proper MW Simulation. I think it might be on the more difficult side for casual players but if you played MW 1,2,3 or even 4 and have been wanting and waiting for a return to the days of old, look no further. MW5 has arrived.
