Not the typical jump-scare or gory excess that generally suffices as horror. Matter-of-fact, at the time of this review, Netflix lists Haunting of Hill House genres as "TV Dramas, TV Shows Based on Books, TV Mysteries". The most former and the latter of which I wouldn't go for, normally. But, somehow, this show weaves it all together in an intricate manner that makes me know I'll watch this series again and again.
Possibly an acquired watch, given it takes investment and an attention span. So, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone simply seeking a mindless or obtrusive scare.
Thought-provoking; and, well done from the cinematography, acting/casting, musical scores/placement, costumes, etc. to the pace of the show, and depictions of real-life fears from varying perspectives. An all-around work of art, in my opinion.
Glad I stumbled across HoHH without having any previous exposure to reviews, spoilers, etc.
Looking forward to the aspects & details I notice with each future watch.
