I miss the era where heroines used to fight and had some character, rather than being arm candies or damsels in distress. Sridevi in Chaalbaaz and Rekha in Biwi ho toh aisi are a refreshing glimpse of the glorious yesteryears. The best part, when Rekha’s name is first on the opening credits. How did we manage to regress from that in the 80s to glorifying drinking and drugs today? Such a pity!

This movie is a satirical take on the society where it’s assumed that marriage is the only endgame for a woman, irrespective of her views on it. The literal viewing of the movie is funny and scary in parts, but the underlying message is what makes it worth the watch! In an environment where “pakdai”( abducting women for marriage) is normalized and sometimes even outsourced (arranged marriages?), the “hero” decides to “save the heroine” without her knowledge or consent. At no point is her opinion on this entire situation expressed, and everyone assumes they know best how to save her. I really liked the ending! There’s some really strong acting from the entire cast and very funny dialogues. Overall a good watch.

It’s a fun movie, scary at times but toned down. It has subtly taken care of loose ends in the narrative. The story veers between horror and comedy and could have been more seamless. Tom Felton is awesome as always! Loved his snark! Tamara is relatable and Oona is sassy! The actual monsters are rather cute and a menace! It’s a good, clean Halloween movie.
