I think the producers bit off rather more than they could chew - such a broad palette to work with. I did enjoy the passing mention of Don Bradman; one up for the Aussies. Another eye opener was the ease by which the Pyrenees 'escape route' was accomplished. I'll have to try crossing from France to Spain via that route, on foot, myself some time. The couple in question made it look like a right doddle! I think the star of the entire series was the wonderful Lesley Manville. A true professional; she did not put a foot wrong. Like her character or not, she was simply brilliant.

Note: This review is about the HBO/Europe Czech TV series, "The Sleepers" and bears NO resemblance at all to the US film called 'Sleepers'. You really cannot fathom those yanks. They deliberately deny themselves the pleasure of watching superbly crafted European television because they “don’t like sub titles”. Aww diddums! They are simply nuts, and lazy to boot. Rather than watch the brilliant Danish series “The Killing” (with sub titles, of course) they produce their own local US version. Hard to believe, isn’t it? It may have been well done but I don’t know as, of course, I did not have any desire to look at it. No matter what they say, the Yanks are still ‘isolationists’ at heart. Anything that’s not good ol’ mom and apple pies, they’re not interested. Well boo hoo to you chumps because the rest of the world LOVES them. I have been watching sub-titled European programs for years and will continue to favour them over US shows any day. There are, of course, exceptions to that rule but not many. The Sleepers continues with the proud tradition of fabulous European television and long may it live. Gordon Doe - Sydney - Australia

I enjoy this TV series except for the overly loud background white noise. The music is also way too loud and at times, quite inappropriate. The producers must have assigned the office junior to the job of overseeing the ambient soundtrack. Wish they hadn't because for this very reason I cannot continue watching. The more I watch, the more I am aware of this constant background noise and the more it really annoys me. So sadly, goodbye Inspector Rocco and Co! Maybe the producers can do something about it . . . if they really care what viewers think, that is. Just as an example, one scene where Rocco and a colleague are sitting at an outdoor cafe with no-one else in sight and the background noise contains voices yelling and yahoo-ing. But as I say, there is absolutely no sign of a living soul in the background so where the hell are all the people making all this noise. It just does not make any sense. I rest my case . . . . . anyone who does not find it annoying must be stone deaf!
