Highly intelligent movie, but not an action thriller so much as a psychological drama with a touch of philosophy. Gant is not really a villain in the classic western sense, more a catalyst for the evil within those around him. And he has a very real and moral sense of his own purpose in life. A timeless tale. Well worth watching even after 65 years.
