Distant Observer

Wow. I can't believe the critics are falling over themselves to praise this film. The acting is so wooden, the actors could be mistaken for fenceposts. They sound as though they are reading their lines. This is a film that tries so darned hard to be profund, it ends up being trite.

Terrific mystery series. Deftly written and plotted. Interesting characters who seem like people. Superbly acted. And then there's the stark, yet beautiful Shetland scenery. Unlike so many of the American-made cop shows on TV these days, there are no blazing gun battles or high-octane explosions.

A film with multiple layers. Deeply nuanced, terrific acting, and it tells a story that will make some people squirm in discomfort. It's also a film that stays with you, gives you no end of food for thought . . . so unlike most of the superhero CGI-powered rubbish the big studios are pumping out these days.

Wonderful series with great scenery, fascinating subject matter, and charming hosts. Well worth viewing.

I don't usually watch true-crime dramas, but I stumbled on this one and was pleased I did. A tad drawn out, but the acting was top notch, the writing first-rate, and the set designers/costumers nailed it when it came to recreating the world of small town Texas in the 1980s. Well worth watching
