Review Battle: James vs. Rodney
(spoiler, Rodney wins, watch the show)
First, I read Jame's review and, as someone who cannot finish watching anything with bad/forced writing, teetered on not watching the series at all. But then I read Rodney's review, and I was intrigued. So I watched and formed my own conclusions.
And so should you. Because Rodney wins this round.
This is nothing like a show for children, nor does it resemble one. That was a rather absurd comparison. The writing isn't genius, but it isn't as bad as James makes it out to be either. It didn't ruin the show for me. The acting could have been a tad better, but again, I wasn't distracted by it.
As for Jame's "DEI theme" accusation and rant, he couldn't be more wrong and, to use a Gen Z phrase just to stir the pot, it's giving "I like things the way they've always been so stop putting youngins in my shows and movies." I actually really enjoyed how Rodney pointed out that the professional world is moving away from judging you based on your hair color, tattoos, etc., and is recognizing the intelligence, talent, or genius of the individual. I am from the Gen X era where that would have never been an option for us. So perhaps James is from that era? That would explain his "you kids get off my lawn" tone to his review. Or perhaps he's been living under a rock and wasn't aware that there are actors from all walks of life, ethnicities, backgrounds, ages out there and we are getting better at recognizing that when casting? But I don't want to speculate too much.
Basically, the show is good. It didn't blow me away; however, it captured my attention, reeled me in, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Read Rodney's review and then go watch it.
