For many months, "Scoob!" has been popping up in ads and commercials and making me evermore excited for a movie that would trigger some childhood nostalgia. The movie did trigger nostalgia but in the worst possible way. There are three major parts of this movie. The animations, the story, and the characters.
Starting off, the animations weren't so bad, but it could have been extraordinary better with Warner Bros having access to a variety of talented animators. Since Warner Bros was producing a children's series, I hoped that they would make it unique. Much like what the studios of "Peanuts" did.
The second (and third merged) of all, the movie is supposed to be about Scooby and the gang solving mysteries, yes? But the movie basically follows a PG/G Superhero movie. Most of the big screen was directed on Scooby and a depressed sounding Shaggy traveling around Europe and trying to find three dog skulls. The iconic pair fight over irrational things and was basically Warner Bro's every "friend fight". Talk about a lack of creativity. The rest of the gang was basically on a road trip and mourning over the disappearance of Shaggy and Scooby. The trio didn't even do any classic "Scooby-Doo" things. No Fred with ascot and traps, and for some reason, a Hispanic looking Velma that didn't say "Jinkies!"
or lose her glasses. The movie also showed references to other Hana Barbara TV shows. A bit too much though. The antagonist has a space invasion worthy ship. Overkill for just trying to collect THREE oversized dog skulls. If you expect some kind of movie like the "Lego Movie" (a cinematic film that shocked everyone that it wasn't a Lego advertising skit) then sorry but, you won't expect that. Is the movie worth $20 to rent? No. 1/5. Would have given 3/5 if the gang was actually together.
