Maybe it is my unfamiliarity with the French Legal system, but the French court case disappointed me. It was speculative and "drama". The entire line of impossible vs improbable is trite and infantile. There was just one expert, and the defendant's expert completely obliterated the prosector's case. He was a big guy, and there was nothing in the prosecutor's expert's testimony to explain how she overpowered him. The psychiatrist was even more stupid. If the guy had such a problem with his wife, any basic psychiatrist would say to divorce or at least try marriage counseling. What a disappointment!
I loved the characters. Daniel's character is very well developed, and Sandra's is super complex. It had great potential. The scenes with the dog are another level. The fight was great. I am surprised that the script won an academy and not the actors, as, in my opinion, it is the weakest thing in the movie. I wish they had dug deeper into the impact on the child and the wife from this case. Daniel said the most logical line in the case trial is trying to find proof or asking why.
Michael Peterson's documentary and Anatomy of a Scandal are much better legal dramas.
