The old addage, "Be careful what you pray for... you just might get it." Defines this film. The British actor, Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) channels a mix of Ryan Reynolds and Jim Caviezel portraying James an individual who doesn't know where his identity is placed and seriously jacks his good life up after experiencing a miracle.
A take away for me is the very real fact that when faced with a crisis beyond one's resources to respond there are no true atheists. The film has deeply religious overtones without being preachy or sexually gratuitous.
The movie is a bit slow moving due to long artful establishing scenes which add little to the impact of the story. However, the cinematography is thoughtful and the acting is good which is further butressed by the great acting of Oliver Platt.
The reviews are harsh on the film often outright panning it. But comparing it to much of what is available on Netflix for a thoughtful storyline and a portrayal of the true fallen condition of man it can definitely compete with films that had bugets 20 times larger.
