I just finished watching episode 16 and I have to say what an emotional ride it was. I was awaiting a drama which would focus on elements of loneliness and finding your place in this world. The main focus of this drama was the relationship between two individuals and the changing dynamics of this relationship through the years. Meeting again after five years, Ung and Yeon Su are hell bent on despising each other. It is through course of shooting a documentary, their suppressed feelings resurface, along with fears and some unanswered questions.
The more mature and realistic turn which their relationship takes when they are full grown adults as compared to when they were in college is the main theme. It is the mutual realisation of need to communicate their innermost thoughts to each other, so as not to repeat the past mistakes. Obviously it takes courage and patience for them to open up and express themselves. I have watched shows where characters work on self development. But, here it has been dealt in way more relatable and honest way. The inner motivation driving us to become the best version of ourselves and coming out of the shells we create during childhood.
Ung, Yeon Su and Ji Ung, all three of them trapped in their own small worlds as a consequence of childhood struggles, shut off friends, co workers and bosses from their lives. It is only gradually they realise their importance , in ensuring they were never alone, even if they felt lonely.
This show deals with instances of loss and uncertainty and there are moments of solitude making it all the more unique, though not really a regular rom com. Nonetheless, it succeeds in leaving you with a warm fuzzy feeling. The OSTs, cinematography and the overall vibe of this drama are undoubtedly top notch. I think it would be really tough for me to find such an amazing drama again.
