During this COVID19 lockdown, my wife and I binge-watched all four seasons of Everwood.
It was great in that we didn't have to fast-forward for sex-scenes or crass language. It was small-town America, and a really mellow watch. Yes, Dr. Andy and his son, Ephram (spelling?) were recent New York escapees, and Dr. Jake was sooo "L.A." (I lived there 20 years-I'm an expert). However, they were trying to fit in.
There were many times when characters did or said things that were out of their characters, but when you roll through 4 years in two weeks, you just overlook those flaws just as you have to do in a small town, if you want to keep friends.
We enjoyed the young, yet serious romances that had us rooting for certain characters and wishing certain ones would go away. This was especially true for Amy (Van Camp's character). One of them did, in the worst way, he died. The other wrong suitor was a druggie who always grovelled for forgiveness and promises of "never do it again." I get we were always wanting the best for her character because she seemed so solid.
Overall casting and character development was very good, despite my previous comment. It was really funny that "L.A. Jake" would cleanse and cream his face before he went to bed. Chris Pratt was just perfect as the goofy, jock brother to Emily Van Camp's character, I would laugh by his merely walking onto the scene.
The wrap-up was fairy-tale, but I loved it.
