The pacing is not good. It jumps around between fast and slow scenes in a way that ruins the delivery of both. the alien invasion is tropey and looks just like every other CGI alien invasion movie. But the parts that are unique to this story are given little screen time and just dropped cold with no ramp up. "Oh, that's my daughter. She was dead and now she's not." Said by a background character we never see again, then cut to the bachelor & bachelorette main characters screwing in a hotel room for some reason. I'd spent half an hour telling everyone how great the book was so then actually hitting play and watching it was embarrassing.
