A lot of people do not understand the difference between a civil case, criminal cases, or aspect of the Michael Jackson 1993 child abuse allegations settlement. Civil cases generally only result in monetary damages or orders to do or not do something. Note that a criminal case may involve both jail time and monetary punishments in the form of fines. At that time Evan Chandler was in a custody battle with his ex wife, June Chandler Schwartz. Michael Jackson and Evan Chandler reached a settlement agreement for a reported $22,000,000. Michael Jackson and his lawyers insist that in no way was the settlement an admission of guilt. Note that, Evan Chandler previously went to Michael asked asked him for money but Michael was adamant that he will fight this and refused to pay. That’s when Even Chandler decides to file a civil suit against Michael Jackson. Michael wanted to have the criminal trial but it the the Chandler and his lawyers were persistent to have the civil suit go first which is illegal now but not back then. The family got their pay check and refused to cooperate with authorities. Jordan refused to testify. The prosecutors did everything they could, they went as far to photograph Michael private parts because the boy gave a description of Michael genitalia but later was found that it completely did not match which is why the prosecution never brought it to court in 2005. They interviewed many kids who was ever at Neverland or ever around Michael but found Notting. Michael was on a 10 plus year FBI investigation which no one knew about, it was a secret. They followed him all around the world and found Notting. The Santa Barbra Sheriffs department did two unannounced raid on Michaels house and found Notting. Michael wasn’t even in the country for one of the raids and still found Notting. There was apparently around 70 police officer in Michael’s house two turned his bed room upside down and still Notting. Thursday of 1993, Michael Jackson makes a statement about the allegations. “I have Alway maintained my innocence and vehemently denied that these events ever took place. I reluctantly chose to settle the false claims only to end the terrible publicity and to continue with my life and career.” Says Michael Jackson. Note that at the time of these allegations, Michael Jackson was on his ‘Dangerous’ tour and chose to settle the case because his lawyers advised him it was in his best interest both financially and health wise. These allegations allegedly caused Michael Jackson to become addicted to Pain killer. $15,331,250 million was to be put in a trust fund For the accuser, Jordan Chandler. Even Chandler and June Chandler would receive $1.5 million, and the lawyer would receive $5 million. THE INSURANCE PAID THE SETTLEMENT in exchange the accuser, and his parents agreed to not Pursue civil case claims against Michael Jackson. However, the settlement did not prevent the Chandler Family from testifying in a criminal case or the 2005 child molestation case against Michael Jackson, the family chose not to. Later in April, the pop star was indicted of all 10 criminal counts for lack of evidence. The Chandler family was not charged for extortion or ever had their property searched. November 5 2009, a couple months after Michael Jackson’s death, Evan Chandler was found with a self inflicted gun shot wound to his head at his apartment.
