A truly wonderful film. I realised in mid-December that I did not have this on DVD and mentioned it in passing to my kids. One of my wonderful presents on Christmas morning was the 1939 version and have watched it three times in five days!As other reviewers have said this is really two love stories, between a man and a woman but also between a schoolteacher and his profession. Beautifully paced and beautifully acted. Much as I am a fan of Clark Gable, Robert Donat fully deserved his Oscar, in my opinion.
