I don’t review movies or really much of anything at all so I’m not following any particular format and I won’t pretend that I’m not going to break any rules with this. However, I just have to say that this movie was incredibly powerful and extremely needed in our current movie universe.
Ignore all of these people who say it was lighthearted or, just fun, or cute. They are exactly what the movie was constantly fighting against. The movie dealt out countless blows to our patriarchal system and those reviewer‘s are minimizing every ounce of substance from this movie the same way that men minimize women and talk down to them all over the world. This movie had heart, it had fierce action, it had a powerful message, and it had integrity. The movie was funny but you better well believe it took itself pointedly seriously.
It made a point to showcase female warriors that weren’t dressed in bikinis tossing out stereo typical sexual dialogue. It was about women as equals, not objects and not second classes. The movie makes a point at the very beginning to show staunch equality between the sexes and I will not spoil it, but pay attention to what happens in the first few scenes. It is not by accident, and it is powerful.
This movie is in my top three Marvel movies ever. Number one is Deadpool 2, number two is Dr Strange, and number three is now Captain Marvel.
Ignore these reviews calling it cute or weak. They were simply unable to feel what the movie was putting out because they were not themselves represented and they could not relate. At this point, I would suggest ignoring pretty much every single reviewer with a Shred of sexism, and just watching the movie for yourself, because it is truly beautiful and if you can’t see that, it’s not for you.
