Incorporating the archaeological discovery of an Anglo-Saxon ship in a centuries-old burial mound at Sutton Hoo this intelligently scripted and superbly acted film deserves your undivided attention. Set at the dawn of WW II (a metaphor for unavoidable conflict) and based on fact the storyline reflects the social interactions of all those involved with the historic dig. The film pace is constant and impeccable. There are no car chases, gun fights or explosions yet you are almost immediately drawn into the sometimes gentle, sometimes visceral interplay of the characters. What is a seemingly simplistic story at the outset develops into a multi-leveled commentary on human nature. This is a most entertaining film and absolutely worth a "look-see".
