This film is a classic and follows a script and plot more like a Dungeons and Dragons role-play game than a typical film. I'd ask anyone to completely ignore the negative reviews because this film should not be taken seriously as it does not take itself seriously either, which is precisely why it is so good. This film has a huge cult following for good reason because it is fun, entertaining and does not suffer from any agenda of being politically correct, like most films and TV has for the last 20 years. For that reason, it is quite refreshing.

Excellent show, far, far superior to most American shows, the comedy is genius and the absence of canned laughter in the back ground is a huge relief. My name is Earl is thought provoking, entertaining, funny, exciting and compullsive watching. It is very good at long running plots and maintaining the audiences interest. Lots of varied characters who return from time to time. The acting of course is brilliant as well. This show should have gone on for at least another two seasons. Please bring back my name is Earl!!!!

Idris Elba is very poorly cast as Roland the gun slinger. The script does not make any sense as it tries to cram in too many ideas from numerous lengthy books in to one film. The part of Roland should have been cast more faithfully to the books. Although now too old, Clint Eastwood would have been perfectly cast when he was around 50 years old to play the part of Roland. Viggo Peter Mortensen would make a good alternative and would have been far better suited to the character Roland's description in the books. Very disappointing adaptation to the Books and what should have been the opening gambit to series of at least four 3 hour films was a total failure both in the cinema and for home video.
