Coming from Newark and growing up during the same time frame the movie took place, I thought it absolutely sucked. Maybe I should have tempered my expectations. The short amount of time dedicated to the riots was portrayed fairly well but overall, there was no story, no great acting, and unremarkable. If you grew up in Newark in the 70's there was so much more material they could have used. The political corruption, the social clubs, racial division, scams, great bars, Vailsburg park, South Orange avenue, etc... I could have written a much better script.
