Only worth it for Thandie Newton. Otherwise, cheesy, bloated, sanctimonious. Demme has failed again, as he did with Philadelphia. Both movies have important things to say, but so heavy-handed that one viewing is way more than enough. I can watch the 7-1/2 hour "Angels in America" over and over (and I have, both on stage and on film), and never tire of that script, but never need to sit through Beloved or Philadelphia again.

Smart, funny script, charming performances, and just enough gross-out monster terror. Also surprisingly sweet for a terrific action-adventure film.
