Only worth it for Thandie Newton. Otherwise, cheesy, bloated, sanctimonious. Demme has failed again, as he did with Philadelphia. Both movies have important things to say, but so heavy-handed that one viewing is way more than enough. I can watch the 7-1/2 hour "Angels in America" over and over (and I have, both on stage and on film), and never tire of that script, but never need to sit through Beloved or Philadelphia again.
