Imagine a government rule in which the word privacy is nothing. Every action that you take, your freedom, your thoughts are all controlled by the government. The capitalist owned everything and everyone else are their slave. Yes, you read it right, even if they say 2 plus 2 is 5 than you have to assume that it's true, they control the past, present and future. Every records, books, date has been altered. Doublethinkers make changes in it as per needs. Whoever tries to think of standing against them will get vaporized by the thought police as a punishment of thoughtcrime.
War is peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength
Big brother is watching you.
Scary, isn't it.
This is what this book is all about a warning.
The author has given a taste of how the world would suffer by the totalitarianism.
Coming to the story, It is centered on Winston Smith who was employer of government and was against of big brothers (A ruling party) motives and was thinking of making revolution against them (which is absolutely comes under thought crime). Howsoever, things take turns and Winston and julia both got arrested by the thought police. Winston was severely beaten to hell for years. Eventually, the O'Brien as a inner party member of ingsoc was the reason for his arrest. Since the Winston was against the big brothers, O'Brien brainwashed his mind by torturing him and makes him confess everything. Atlast both were released but their thought was finally changed.
