This game was absolutely amazing! The writing, the characters, the twisted backstory, the ominous turn of events, all boiled down to the true ending of the game, it was overall an amazing experience. I never look at the tags of the games when I went into it, so I went into DDLC thinking it was nothing more than a simple dating sim. The only reason I tried it out was mainly because my friends wouldn't shut up about it. They wouldn't tell me why because I'd have to "play it to understand." So I played it, and boy was I surprised! It went from innocent people-pleasing to demonic symbols and cursed Yuri. And I'll never forget the moment MC walks into Sayori's room to find that she's hung herself. When that happens to you in real life, you are filled with overwhelming emotions. Like, that's it. Your best friend is gone. They're dead, you aren't getting them back. And it's these kind of pre-existing emotions that make Sayori's death so overwhelming and emotional. And then the rest of the class starts getting weird, too. Yuri goes from a shy, timid book-worm to a knife-obsessed, cynical, insane yandere who is out to get that man, MC, and is willing to take any lives necessary, even her own. It's at this point where the game is really struggling to simply function, it just lost two of its main characters and the script it forever changed by none other than Monika, who then erases everything and you're left in a room, with Just Monika. Just you and Monika, together forever, until you erase her and get the true ending of the game. Overall, Doki Doki Literature Club is one of the best games I've ever played, and I highly encourage anyone to try it out.
