Underwhelming pretty much sums this up. The screenplay resulted in the delivery of some disappointingly wooden lines from seasoned professionals, and there was altogether too much happening plot wise which left me struggling to follow the main story line.
The cinematography was very good with some great moody shots, but from a local's perspective I found the cast unbelievable - definitely mainland imports - despite our increasingly diverse population it is still not reflected to that extent in the local police force. The dress code was also very mainland - not a single Tassie tuxedo or any form of outdoor clothing in sight which are donned by the majority during a Hobart winter.
The detectives did not wear side arms but were able to magically produce them when required. Also, what officer uses their personal vehicle for work purposes?
The reliance on candles and torches for illumination may have been an attempt at setting the mood, but ended up giving the impression of severe power shortages in Tasmania or the inability to find the light switch when entering a room.
So much potential with such a high calibre cast, but sadly, it falls rather short of the mark.
