If I could rate this movie zero stars I would.
It's an absolute dumpster fire of an attempt at telling the story of Eragon.
So many key plot details were either butchered beyond redemption or straight up ignored.
I read the book(s) long before the movie was attempted and I understand that movies almost never do the book justice, but this trash heap of a script should have been torched before they ever let it see the light of day.
So many crucial details were just wrong.
Eragon's first meeting with Angela was completely wrong, not a single mention of the werecat solembum, who becomes a major key character later in the series.
Almost every interaction with Brom was wrong.
Saphira didn't "fly into the sky as a baby and get zapped by lightning then come back fully grown and announce her name was saphira"
She grew over the course of months and Eragon chose her name from the stories Brom told him.
Don't even get started on the appearance of the urgals
In the book Eragon destroys the star Sapphire in the battle of tronjheim, an act with earns him the utmost contempt and ire from the dwarves.
The movie makes absolutely no mention of the star Sapphire, which becomes a major plot point in the second book
Arya does not have blonde hair and blue eyes, the actress they chose to play her did. They didn't even make an attempt to make her look anything like the book character. (Black hair, green eyes)
But perhaps the biggest and worst screwup of all, in the end of the movie Arya leaves for ellesmera, which is completely wrong. She doesn't leave for ellesmera until almost halfway through book two. So the way they ended the first movie, they screwed themselves from ever being able to actually make a second movie without first needing to remake the first. The second book begins with Arya still in the caves trying to track down the twins. After they murdered the leader of the varden.
There's a lot more they got wrong about the books, but I don't want to be typing for an hour.
In the end, it is my opinion that this is by far the absolute worst attempt at a book to movie adaptation in the history of book to movie adaptations. Avoid this movie like the plague.
