I do not understand why this has a lower rating than the Tobey Maguire films. I love this movie almost as much as the Tom Holland trilogy. In the Tobey Maguire films, the characters had no depth, no compelling traits. Peter is smart, shy, good and likes MJ and MJ is there to be with other boys. In TASM, similarly to the Tom Holland films, the characters have appeal and character. Peter is rebellious, smart, brave and loves Gwen. Gwen is a genius, brave and loves Peter. Gwen is her own character and Peter’s character isn’t completely centered around Gwen the way Tobey Maguire’s Peter focused on MJ. In these ways, the movie pulls you in and you find yourself connecting with the characters while in the originals ones you didn’t see any depth to them.
