The lighting and sets are just historical. It is a really bad mix between Tim Burton's batman and Blade Runner. Makes the movie impossible to take seriously in any fashion.

It tried. I tried. They offered very little in the way of continuity. If the future means space travel and missions are this poorly planned and run, then the human race is doomed anyway.
