It took me three attempts to watch this show.
My first attempt I made it to the end of episode two. The same for the second attempt.
I then scrolled through all the one star reviews that seemed unwilling to go along with what Smith was trying. Next I read through some of the five star reviews that seemed all too willing to avoid looking at what smith had actually done.
Is it the He-Man show smith seemed to be promising? No, it is so far removed from what was promised it is indeed a bait and switch.
Is it the "woke" nightmare everyone is foaming at the mouth about? Also no.
In my opinion it is an earnest attempt to do something different that unfortunately falls short.
It falls short of being a He-Man story and it falls short of capitalising on the source material in a meaningful way.
If you go into the show understanding that it isn't He-Man then you can see what they were going for, sadly if the only way to enjoy a show is to not want what the show promised then it is something of a failure.
I don't think season two will be any better, and unfortunately that means once season two is finished and there is the possibility to make a season three people would actually want Netflix will pull the plug and all we will be left with is two seasons of a show nobody asked for and the fans didn't enjoy.
