I'm flabbergasted by some of these reviews. I bought into the hype only to be severely disappointed. Firstly, and most importantly the cast had zero charisma. The lead actress did a decent job as Rain, but the others I couldn't wait until they were killed. Seriously, I couldn't understand what they were even saying. I needed subtitles and I feel embarrassed for those 'actors'. Many reviewers praised the performance of the android 'Andy' but he went through the entire film with the same bemused expression. Whoever cast this film should never work again in movies. Reviewers have praised the films atmosphere and set design but I thought it sucked. Firstly, like most modern movies the film was very badly lit - darkness and amber lighting - which I see in almost every movie these days. Every frame was also severely cluttered which made it difficult to watch. The plot is what it is, a total rehash of previous scenes and ideas. On the plus side, the fllm was never boring and keeps up a steady pace until the end. Honestly, the more I think about this film, the worse it becomes. Don't be fooled by the hype.

Just when you think new movies can't get worse, they do. Another two hour snoozefest with no scares. Like most modern horrors you can barely see what's happening through the darkness and orange light. This is very similar to the equally atrocious Immacualte - does anyone in Hollywood have any original ideas? And the casting is simply atrocious. British comedy actors. Finchy from The Office!!

The critics gave this movie a hard time and that wasn't fair. True, it's the kind of film that you don't see too much these days unfortunately so maybe it's a bit out of fashion. However, it has a proper story and actual acting by grown actors not robots or kids. No CGI either. A bit slow to get going and thriller fans will probably see the twist coming but worth a couple of hours of anyone's time.

A disgrace. So bad it made the Nun 2 seem good. Absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever, it's boring, no atmosphere, badly acted, unscary, preachy. Don't waste your time and money on this nonsense.

For any serious horror fans - forget it - this film is a bad joke. It ripped off parts of every Exorcist movie you ever saw and threw them together - for example I watched Exorcist 3 the other day and you can see they stole from that even. Everything was wrong, the script was dreadful. Throwing f-bombs cos you can't think of anything else.The demons voice was just ridiculous and had me cringing. As usual the CGI was way over the top and the color filters made the sets look cheap and unrealistic. The first 3/4 of the movie was bad enough then it went somewhere else even worse. Honestly can't think of any redeeming features - maybe Russell Crowe was watchable and the only decent thing about the movie.

It was great to look at and overall I enjoyed the film but I really didn't appreciate the political aspect I thought it was heavy handed and inappropriate for this movie. I understand he wanted to update the storyline but why use political propaganda, that's shameful. I'm sick to death of politics in my entertainment. The portrayal of Mussolini was cliche. This is a story about love not politics. I love Del Toro but I believe he made a mistake with this.

At 128 minutes this movie is a drag and at least half an hour two long. I don't mind a slow burn but too many scenes were just plodding and self indulgent. As others have said the acting was mediocre at best - apart from Bale who was great as always. The plot had too many holes and was frankly unbelievable especially the ending, Admittedly, I didn't see the twist coming but it felt overly contrived and tagged on. Worst of all though, and this is probably down to my taste, the cinematography was really distracting, it was almost unwatchable. Why do Netflix always overuse blue and green filters? All the exterior shots were too blue and the interiors a gloomy dark green. It's phony and unrealistic. They blew $72mil on this and could have made it better for half the price.

Started off promisingly but went completely insane and over the top. Sums up all that is wrong with most modern Netflix series - too much bad CGI, a story that doesn't know what it wants to be, I mean what did I just watch? I'm not gonna waste any more time thinking about it. On the positive side, there were some great songs at the end of each show which had no connection to the story and the actors tried their best, other than that it was a steaming pile of you know what.

I read some positive reviews for this movie so I had high hopes. I thought was dreadful. Frankly, the whole premise was absurd - Tim Roth showing up after 22 years and the whole baby thing - it was just bizarre, the old thing when you don't have a good idea then go weird to fool people. I don't mind a slow burn either but nothing happened for the first 40 minutes. The two lead characters were both seriously dislikeable, no redeeming features for either of them. I generally like Rebecca Hall but thought she overacted, probably cos she was working with Tim Roth. Do yourself a favor a give it a miss.

It gets a star for decent acting and some beautiful photography but this is an example of what happens when your movie completely runs out of steam, and you have no idea what to do with it, you just go weird. Weird is not the same as smart. It works pretty well for the first half then falls apart for the rest. It's garbage masquerading as art. I saw an interview with Alex Garland saying he had this script lying around for 15 years or so and he changed it many times - doesn't that tell you something? He should've left it buried in the closet.
