A big change in the telling of the King Arthur tale. More so than BBC's Merlin. More Tolkienish. Fairies are a huge part. The big bad church is the dark army. Religion is good but power has corrupted its leaders. The fight to not be corrupted by power is a big theme element that challenges all major characters. Much like the one ring (LOTR). I really love the reference to the past Roman period in Britannia. Akin to the second age in LOTR (Lord Of The Rings).
The show is also very progressive. Arthur is a man of color. This is not a documentary or a strict historical piece. I am an amateur historian. I had issues with period pieces not being historically accurate in the past. However, I now see with the diversity of America and of Netflix's international audience that color, sexual orientation, and general views of the people at that historical period in time can't restrain the vision of the storyteller.
This tale may not be written as well as LOTR but I enjoyed it very much and it's in the top 5 I have watched during the Covid NetFlix, Hulu, Prime, HBOgo binge watching fest.
