I loved this book. It is unlike anything I’ve read before; taking place in a dystopian world with no music and no art, on a planet drained of its life, told from the perspective of a girl who, at first, is conditioned to believe that this is all okay. It really illustrates the power of lies and corruption, but also the power that citizens have to make a change. It also shows that we see the world differently depending on our perspective. At the beginning of the book, Letta works as the wordsmith in Noah’s town, fearing the desecrators, but by the end, she’s fighting against Noah alongside the desecrators, who are really creators, artists and musicians.
On a separate note, I also think that in a way the book was a warning to us that if we don’t change the way we do things, our world may end up like Letta’s.
