Roman Lanslide

I Believe (2017) is 90 minutes of evangelical propaganda that serves to make the radical christian audience feel good about themselves. This movie really thinks being christian in America will get you evicted, fired, kidnapped by the mafia, and killed, in that order. I'm not exaggerating, I'm not being facetious, all of those things happen to the main character and his family because he read the bible and got magic powers from it. It's also pretty ableist, treating disability as a curse and death sentence. It makes for an okay hate-watch though.

The voice acting is weird sometimes, the image quality is consistently low (even on the DVD), the animation itself isn't great, it's weird and bizarre... I love it. This isn't just "x fairy tale/folk tale but with hello kitty characters" like you may expect. Cinderella wants to be a quarterback. Little Red Riding Hood but make it western. There are more straightforward retellings, but even those are bizarre enough in their execution to be entertaining. Also, Hello Kitty is played by a 14 year old Tara Strong! It's her first leading role in film, isn't that fun!

don't watch this. i'm a big fan of horror and can stomach a good amount of body horror, but the people who made this movie tortured and killed real animals to make a movie that isn't even good. not even nearly worth a hate watch. If you want a grossout challenge movie, watch Human Centipede or something.

made me cry, several times. a movie hasn't been able to do that in quite some time. the character and environment designs, the vocal performances THE ANIMATION... I can't recommend it enough, really

this movie connected with me in a very personal and visceral way that I don't even know how to describe. watch it
