Honestly surprised by the glowing reviews. The cinematography was brilliant and the cast oozes with tense charisma, but it felt to me like such a waste. Overloaded with ideas that are too crowded to really develop. So many random but that contributed nothing to the plot and so little actual character development. The action scenes were obligatory. While violent in nature on they still felt cold and hurried. I felt like this film wanted to be a lost season of The Wire, but with none of the depth, wit, or nuance. A lot happens but it feels like nothing happens. Social issues are thrown out left and right but no particularly steering point is made. It's ultimately a pretty but ponderous mishmash.
There are moments. And again it's beautifully shot, but this ultimately feel at far short of what it could have been
